Conagen is a cutting-edge synthetic biology R&D company focused on making the impossible possible through innovation. Specializing in large-scale manufacturing, Conagen uses advanced synthetic biology tools to produce high-quality, sustainable, nature-based products through precision fermentation and enzymatic bioconversion. Their work targets industries such as food, nutrition, flavors and fragrances, pharmaceuticals, and renewable materials, delivering high-value ingredients in a sustainable manner.

The Ask

Conagen approached me with the need to redesign their website. The goal was to create a modern, user-friendly platform that could serve two primary functions: educating visitors about synthetic biology and Conagen’s role in the industry, and providing a digital style guide for press and media to use. The website needed to effectively communicate the company’s expertise while offering a visually appealing and intuitive experience for users from different sectors. Additionally, the new design was intended to support Conagen’s growing reputation by making valuable resources more accessible.

The Solution

The solution involved creating a website that balanced educational content with modern aesthetics. The design was focused on enhancing user experience, providing visitors with an easy-to-navigate structure where they could learn more about synthetic biology and Conagen’s innovative processes. Key educational pieces were prominently featured, offering clear and digestible information for both industry experts and newcomers alike. A dedicated section was developed to house a digital style guide for press, ensuring consistent branding across all media channels.

The website not only enhanced Conagen’s digital presence but also won an award for American Graphic Design Awards GDUSA in October 2019, reflecting the success of the project in both design and functionality.
